This is a scale model of the I.N.S.S. MacArthur from The Mote In God’s Eye by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle. I drew the design after seeing concepts by artist Aldo Spadoni, which featured a similar theme for all of the book’s main spacecraft.

The model is 11″ long overall and built from a core cylinder. The main body shapes were cut from a variety of spheres and oval plastic. All detailing was either painted on or applied with custom-printed decals. The base was signed by Larry Niven at a convention we attended.
